Wooden chopping block

I have an old wooden chopping block that is about 4 feet long, 3 feet wide and 2-3 feet thick that I would like to clean up and use it as an island in my kitchen. I am not sure where to start. I would like to know the best way to restore it without losing the antique/used look.
