furniture finishes

I have some pieces of furniture that were wrapped in cardboard and shipped in a container. They are all English pieces from the 30"s. Heat or something caused the ridges on the backside of the cardboard to cut into the finish on some pieces. How can I hide these ridge marks without refinishing the whole piece?.......Thanks
