Don't? OK that wasn't fair, but we are all about removing paint and restoring here, so it seems contrary to our purpose, and I hope you are definate as to the reasons for painting over wood. I think a light sanding with 180 grit sand paper once you do a cleaning with mild soap (dish) and use oil base if you want a long lasting and durable surface.
