screw loose

I have an older dining table with a two-piece base (three legs each). do not know the style or maker. the bases screw into the table botton with seven screws on each piece of the base. the holes for these screws have (presumably over the years) become too large for the screws. can i use wood filler to revitalize the holes? should i get wider screws? i do not want to destroy the integrity of the table. what would you recommend? thanks doug
