Have you considered using a block of ice as was the original intention, that would be the simplest and would no devalue the piece due to the conversion. Any cooling unit with compressor and fan from a regular fridge will work, of coarse it will take up some space, holes will need to be drilled and the controls will have to be included. Be sure to ground the metal lining, and don't forget the light and door switch.
