chinese black lacquer

I recently received a cabinet in my shop that my customers purchased in China and had shipped to Iowa. The side of the piece looks as if it had been nicked by a fork-lift making a splintered dent about 2 inches by 2 inches. The cabinet is newly-made, is a satin black lacquer and has a intricate stencil design painted in various shades of antiqued gold. Simulating the design and the gold is no problem for me, but I am looking for a filler that can adequately level and receive the lacquer. Also I am worried that the lacquer might not match what seems to be an ivory black are a black that has been warmed with brown tones. I am going to ask the manufacturer for some material, but if that doesn't work I will have to play with the toning. I did notice that the dent showed some white filler The wood is of low quality and seems to show some of the grain underneath the lacquer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
