I have a very long pine farm table to refinish. I'm a novice and want to get it right. The current finish is uneven--part dull and part shiny. Looks like some kind of poly maybe. I had the idea to sand it all off and start over with clear wax. My questions are: 1. Is that the best route? 2. Can I use a palm sander on the top or am I asking for trouble if I introduce a power tool? and 3. Do you favor a particular wax and application method?
