Painted Metal Bed

I have a metal bed that's about 20 years old. It was painted with several layers of paint. I am using paint remover and applying some sanding to certain areas. As I sand it, I have noticed how beautiful the metal is, the "stainless steel" look sort of. I'm wondering if there is any way I can perserve this look without it tarnishing or staining over time. Should I paint it with stainless steel or metal color or is there something I can simply treat the bed with. It for a little boy and I thought that would be a masculine look for him as he grows up.
