DEEP wood stain - how to remove - after stripping

HELP! I am refinishing 65 yr old coffee table. I have removed layers of stain and sanded but some spots are very deep and dark (especially around spools). Boric acid paste suggested but I can't find any details. Professional wood refinisher has no suggestions! Thanks..(PS...I'm a beginner).
