I found a lovely old desk at a garage sale for $15 dollars. It was covered with gaudy woodgrain contact paper and looked terrible. I wasn't interested until I found actual wood underneath! When I took the hardward of the desk I found a beautiful finish underneath all of the crud that has accumulated over the years.
My problem is figuring out how to get the crud off and expose the beautiful finish underneath. I've tried soapy water and alcohol. The soapy water didn't do much and the alcohol tends to leave a whitish residue. I want to be able to restore this desk and make it look as original as possible without stripping and refinishing it.
Please - I don't understand the chat thing very much, so if you have a suggestion or remedy, could you please send it to my email address?
