I have just recently received an antique oak rocking chair. I would like to refinish it. Should this be refinished as a normal piece of wood furniture? Sand the old stain off, restain and varnish? The wood also appears to be very dry. Should I some how re-condition the wood before restaining or is this done after the new stain is put on? For all you people that would like to rescue this piece of furniture from me, please know that I will take good care of it - I just need direction. Thank you.
