I need some advice from the experts. I have an opportunity to buy a dining room table, 6 chairs, and the matching china cabinet, but I'm not sure what they are worth. The set is probably around 50 years old. It's a dark wood color - walnut finish is my guess. The chair backs are cane, and are shaped like a U with the top of the U just being a slight downward curve. The seat part is fabric padding, and the legs are sort of queen anne style. The table has the same legs as the chairs, but the top appears to be a veneer or laminate. The china cabinet almost looks like it doesn't match the set. It's not very deep - maybe 12 inches. It has two glass doors with a strip of wood in the middle. It also appears to be made from something other than real wood. The glass doors are covered with a metal mesh (gosh, I hope this all makes sense). The base of the cabinet has three doors, and inside one door are drawers. The finish on the china cabinet has black splotches all over it (it's made that way), and in the center of the wood piece in the middle of the two doors, there is a flower imprint which has the look of decoupage - in other words, you can barely see the flowers against the wood. The china cabinet and table top have a heavy gloss look to them. Anyway, does anyone out there know what I'm talking about? Is this junk, or is it worth purchasing?
