In Response To: glue removal on Lladro piece (Jeanne)

Jeanne, If its hot glue then a hair dryer aimed at the junction of the object and the base sould allow you to pull the base off of it. Wear a heat resistant oven glove or heat proof pad to hold the figure(something that allows you a firm grip without slipping on its smooth surface). Pry the wood base downward gently as the heat builds up. If its hot glue it sould at least begin to give. Then apply more heat at the joint until you can pry it off. Once cooled the glue should pick off easily. It may be a water based glue, in which case you can place it in a shallow container of water. If the glue turns white like stale toothpaste then its a dead give away for water based glue. Just continue to soak it being sure of two things: Weight down the base so it does't float up or turn over. Do position some thing around the figurine so that when it separates it does't fall over and break. Perhaps two wooden spoons perpendicular secured by rubber bands, like its being carried on shoulders. The spoons should rest on the edges of the container to hold the figure up. If the glue is a clear super glue or tube type glue then you will have to try softening the joint with paint stripper . Use cotton balls soaked in stripper at the joint all the way around it ,keep the area moist (evaporation will dry it out) cover it as best you can with tin foil or at least waxed paper. If you know some one handy with with a knife, they may even be able to pick it apart(carefully) The figurine is stronger than most people realize, however it can be scratched. Good Luck --Peter Dale
