stripping paint from metal chairs

I've just purchased a couple of Russel Wright Samsonite chairs; they currently have a coat of rusting green paint underneath the original RW colors. Can the later coat be stripped off without ruining the original? How? Is there someplace (like an auto paint shop) where it can be done cheaply? ETC ETC
