Problem is older(150+ yr walnut)2-dropleaf table, 39 1/2" x 96" extended, end- dropleafs are 13" deep..problem is one dropleaf is in 2-pieces, split entire width, split is 5" from curved end...the dropleafs in "up position" are supported at their "bottom-side leaf-center" by a cast-swingarm.....I am considering installing 2-1/8" X 1" X 8" steel strips with 4 screws each on bottomside of dropleaf, each steel strip centered between "centered swingarm support" and edge...should the wood surface be groved to keep steel strip flush with wood surface and is doweling also advised...? Any suggestions for this repair....I am not considering leaf replacement!...Thanks for your help.. "Frantic Fran"
