Repairing a cast plaster mirror frame

I have a very large 100 year old mirror with a beautiful cast plaster frame. Recently the mirror fell off the wall and caused damage to two large sections on the bottom of the frame. I would like to try to repair/replace myself. The pattern is a floral repeat. I believe I can duplicate it if I can figure out what to use to make a mold of a section. One article I read said to use florest clay but I believe the section is too long. Is there a product i.e. rubber or silicone which I could purchase to make a mold? Also this article says I should use a product called hydrostone instead of plaster because plaster is not hard enough. Any comments or help would be wonderfully appreciated. This was a quite expensive piece.
