How to clean up oxidized hardware?

I'm in the process of refinishing a Gunn bookcase which has spent many years apart and unfinished in the garage. The wood is coming along nicely, but the hardware needs a little help as it has, over time, oxidized. What do you suggest to remove rust? Also, would butcher's wax be the right thing to use on the door slides when it's put back together? When I took this apart years ago, I wrapped up all the hardware in individual papers, marking and making some drawings as to where the pieces go back into place. Boy am I glad I did at least that. I wish I had made a video. There are a lot more pieces to this puzzle than I remembered!! Thank you in advance for your advice on this and my previous questions to the forum.
