We constantly warn people about the hazard of oily rags. The wetter they are the worse the possibility of fire. If you wish to continue to use an oily rag, place it in a zip-lock bag, squeeze out all the excess air, and put it in a metal can with a sealed lid. The lack of oxygen will prevent combustion.
