Cleaning a beautiful old pine table

I have a large refectory pine table, perhaps 200 years old, beautifully made - all wooden pegs, no metal - not varnished, just waxed. It's used daily, and is now dirty - from newpaper print ink and general use (no real damage, no major marks). How do I get the layer of dirt off; I would rather not sandpaper it, or if I must, then do i use sand paper or wire wool? Or what? Thank you friends. Lida
