Gentleman's dresser

Can someone tell me how to strip this dresser to its original finish? It also has a beveled mirror that needs resilvering very badly. I don't believe there is any silver left. This piece was given to me and is quite old but I don't know exactly. Have not been able to do alot of research yet. I do know that the owner had started stripping it and it appears to be oak under all the grime. I really love this piece and want to restore it back to its original condition if possible. And I might add, I have not done anything like this before so any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.
