oak veneer

I recently inherited an old oak plant stand. The round top needs some work. I need to replace the oak veneer. It looks to be about 1/4" thick. How do I go about removing the pieces of veneer that are still attached to the top without further damaging the piece? Where can I find replacement veneer? Is it possible to stain the veneer to match the rest of the stand? Would I be better off purchasing a new oak top and staining that instead?

Thank you,
