The only solution is to strip the old paint, but first I wouls glue any splits with t\T88 epoxy after a good cleaning out of each split. Use a hose clamp and a pad to squeeze out the excess glue, allow the epoxy to cure for several days befor stripping. If you choose to disassemble the parts while stripping, make sure to put them back together right away, so the parts don't loose their shape.
