My base rate for shop work is $50 an hour...it goes up from there for turning and carving...I try to quote a "job" price when ever possible, but I have better luck usually telling the customer I will work by the hour and then giving them an estimate of the time that will be involved. I also have started taking a 50% deposit on all jobs over $350....does wonders to get people to pick stuff up in a timely fashion when it's ready...some dealers I work for get a cut rate too...depending on their relationship and the amount of work they give me...
