Mary, Log on to www.vandykes.com. They have a line of carved items including claw feet. You may be able to adapt something there. Another possibility is to find an amatuer woodcarver. Don't knock the amatuers - some are very good. I don't know how big the piece is but VanDykes also has claw feet that enclose a glass ball that was used on piano stools. The best thing though is like Greg said. i imagine you could have one carved for under $100. Sounds like a lot but it really isn't if you can keep it as original as possible.
