Hi Greg what we call spelter here you may call pot metal i think the main items are tin/ antimony /and lead i have used potasium permanganate mixed with amonia with a small amount of gold dust this is a brew that i have just experimented with on spelter and it gave quit a good colour after i painted the solution on working well with a small brush i then heated the spelter with a gas torch making sure not to melt the tin from the base metal the dusted of the residue and if needed touched up then waxed with a hard bees wax with carnauba added to make it very hard then buffed if you send your email address i will send a photo danny
