I'd just like to clarify and say that the method I described works with pretty much any glue......and on any antique I would use hide glue...and also to brag a little with James and say that I also have been doing this for over 25 years and seen only 1 or 2 chairs ever come back from faulty repairs....and those I believe were as a result of winter shrinkage...and I do alot of chairs....Of course James is right that the best repair will result from disassembly.....we all know thats not always possible though...
