touch up painting on harp

Thank you for your previous suggestions. I am still working on this 100 year old harp and it is looking much better. However I am still troubled by this brass paint on the bottom of the column which covers over the original gold leaf or gold paint. I cannot afford to bring this piece to a restorer right now, and I hope in the future we will. But until then, can I apply a thin layer of gold leaf paint (acrylic base) on top of the brass paint and not interfere with a future restoration job? It is my intention to let the brass show through, I just want to add a golden sheen to the bottom part of the column.

Your advice is greatly appreciated and I promise I will hold myself back from doing this until I hear from you.
