I would suggest that you stop using those products because it sounds as though you've gone through the finish. Try testing some Varsol (Mineral Spirits)on a small spot to see if it cleans off the grim and if you can see the wood grain clearly. If it works use it all over the piece and take a look to see just what the damage is to the wood and the finish. Message back. Ellie.
