Hi Dawn, are the marks black?...typically Oak tends to turn black from damage like this...the only choice you have is to bleach out the stains with an Oxalic acid solution, and then stain the beam down to a likeable color....or you could cover the beam with a veneer of new wood (in this case I mean a veneer of 3/4" material, boxed right over the beam),....
