Bubble problem with newly applied wood veneer

I had to remove damaged veneer from an old dining room table top that has rolled ends - "waterfall series"? I used pre-glued iron on because of the ends. It went on easily, but in a couple of weeks bubbles started to form. I made pinholes and re-ironed them. It solved the problem temporarily, until larger bubbles appeared and the re-ironing doesn't seem to work. Must I remove the veneer and start over, or is there another solution I can try?
