The original finish is most likely shellac, if so a cotton lint free cloth dampened with denatured alcohol, will start to allow the moisture traped in the finish to start to evaporate from the finish. One quick swipe with the wetted cloth is all you want to do, as the alcohol penetrates the finish, it will mingle with the moisture traped in the finish, as the surface dries back down, the moisture will start to wick off with the alcohol. Repeat as needed, until the finish is once more clear. If a noticable shine remains, buff to match the surronding area with 0000 steel wool, and apply a satin wax to help prevent a repeat.
