ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Bed Frame Extenders

We just bought an antique bed frame and the side rails are 72 inches long. Our current double bed mattress is 74 inches, so it doesn't fit the frame. Does anyone know of a place to buy extenders? I'm thinking that 3 inch extenders would be good so that we can get sheets on and off easily. Another board pointed me to a hardware source (can't remember the name right now), but they were just the metal hooks and they were the double style - our side rails have only a single hook. Something that the current rail would hook into and then the other side would hook into the foot/head board, be 2-3 inches long, would be great! I also heard that someone routinely cuts the side frames, inserts a 3 inch piece and joins the whole thing back together. This is an option, but not high on my list.
