ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Berkley & Gay dresser and vanity

I was given a dresser and vanity table ages ago from a fellow student when I was in college...they carry a brass cirucular stamp "Berkley & Gay Furniture Co"...they are painted an unusual green with a pretty floral in tones of rust, greens, ochres...was this an origional paint? They were hand-me-downs then and twenty years later and almost as many moves are really losing a great deal of the painted finish...bare wood is showing through in several places. Does anyone know a little about the possible history of these items in relation to the Berkley & Gay company? I have not had a lot of luck researching this company and had hoped to find other pieces with this paint style, learn if there was any value to them before I decide to refinish or remove the paint. They are becoming a hazard as they both drop paint whenever you walk by! Thanks, Robyn
