Table top finish for dining Table

I recentlly purchase an old dining table with one spot with a black stain close to the center of table and a lot of white rings. I stripped the table top to the wood (four sides solid wood and veneer center) and fixed the rised veneer. I could not get rid of the black stain. Is there a way to eliminate the stain? If not, I will stain the table with dark walnut color which is pretty close to the legs' in hope of covering up the black spot. Are there other options? Also, what other finish coating is somewhat durable besides polyurethane? I like the table finish with a natural waxy shine. The table will not be used on a regular basis. Thank you for any information you can provide.
