ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

new veneer

I have just replaced the veneer - european oak - on the face of an old Ferranti electrical clock & I am pleased with the look. However, as the clock is about 60 years old, the original veneering has traces of black in the grain from wear. How best might I stain the pores of the new piece to look convincingly black and dirty :-) I might get away with doing nothing but feel a little discolouration would be in order. Perhaps after I stain the new veneer a dark wax might be adequate but I thought I'd ask advice before jumping in.

Thanks, Janice
