Heywood bros and Wakefield chair

I recently acquired a chair that is labeled "Heywood bros and Wakefield/Chicago". It appears to be made of oak and reclines and swivels. The interesting thing to me is that it does not have casters, or holes where casters once were. The finish is worn and some of the wood is scuffed...Would stripping/sanding be the best way to remove the remaining stain?? What would be the most accurate color stain to use once stripped?? Since it is being used as an office chair, would it be okay to add casters???? Thank you for any input
