In Response To: Oil Stain Absorption in Dry Wood (Peter Yorston)

Be careful when staining very old and dry wood as the end grain will absorb more of the stain and get very dark. You might use some natural oil like Watco on the end grain first to help seal it and keep it from absorbing too much of the dark stain. As always though practice this in an inconspicuous place first.
