There are many ways to finish this type of Oak, I don't personally care for Deft, I would opt for a Gel Stain to the appropriate color, that would help fill the grain, and then topcoat with a good Satin Varnish, or Gel varnish being careful not to apply too much finish as the pores should show a little as well as some of the nicks and dents that are left after steaming and sanding. Then follow with rubbing out and you'll have a beautiful, amber, tough finish. The chairs can be done the same way, or even done with Shellac to hasten the job, rubbed down and waxed with a dark paste wax. Just another method, both will probably yield excellent results..regards
