Antique Steamer Trunk... please help

I have recently acquired my grandparents antique steamer trunk from the early 1900's. It has tin on all sides, pattern stamped with an alligator like design; which is incredibly dirty and rusting a bit. The rest is wood, which too is incredibly dirty, almost blackened. The leather handles are torn and need to be replaced and the metal corners and hinges either need replacing or repair. The inside smells of mildew and the paper needs to be replaced. I have no clue where to begin! I have never taken on a challenge of this magnitude or of this personal value. My main concerns are how to deal with the stamped tin and wood; and I am unsure what everything should look like when I am done. If anyone has some suggestions I would most definitely appreciate them!
