Rachel , The table sounds like a "marriage" of legs from an old dinning room table and the top. If the table were mine ,I'd try soaking the towel with mineral spirits and try to "rub "the paper off with my finger or very fine steel wool. If that didn't work I'd use Lacquer thinner and the steel wool. But thats only an opinion. Some one out there may have a better approach. To answer your question , the spot under the towel will need to be restored.You learned the hard way never to use "chemicals "on or near a finished wood surface. Good Luck.
