In Response To: Removing antique glue (Peter Yorston)

Thanks to Michael and James. It does appear that it is old hide glue. I took warm water and a rag to one of the joint pieces to day and it turned sticky. There is a heavy collection on the bottom of one of the joints, Clean it out a bit or will it be reactivated as you said?

I am in Atlantic Canada and have not been able to find the Watco Oil stain to date, but there is a specialty store here and I will check that.

I take it is the oil that rehydrates the wood, is it ok to put a protective varnish over it after it is done twice with the oil. Apologizing if these seem like rookie questons but that is what I am.
