Plastic resin glue, or poly resin, wasn't around when this piece was made. I would not concern myself with that since your description is exactly what hide resin would look like after all that thim. In a tight fitting joint liquid hide will set up in eight hours. Linseed oil will darken in time, Watco Danish oil would be a safer choice for finish rejuvenation.
