Before you go to all the work of refinishing, can it be restored? Well, check it out. You mentioned you didn't want to ruin it's natural look, that might be a good idea. Depending on it's age, you may not want to mess with it's look. So, first get a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits, wipe a test area, like near the back foot or base. See if it brings some color and life back. If it does, great. Do the whole thing, wipe dry immediatley, let stand for a day and wax it with a carnauba or beeswax furniture paste wax, and your done. If not go ahead and refinish, do some more research, determine the age and finish before you start.
