Found an old oak side or dining room chair in back corner of father's overfilled garage. Its probably been there for over 60 years of winter cold and summer heat but no water damage. Chair is flat back, large ball and claw feet with cabriole leg (I think.) Leather seat (ripped) with what looks like horsehair stuffing and almost a jute type backing. Screws and old nails holding it together. Chair is well made, very heavy and sturdy. But the wood seems very dry, from being in garage for years? It is also very dirty. Almost black, except in a few spots where the oak shows through on the top rail and on the feet. How do I clean it? I am concerned about the dryness of the wood.
