In Response To: vinegar washing (michael brumley)

This will clean your furniture, but it won't help it. A little is ok for extreme restoration purposes, but constant vinegar cleaning of shellac and lacquer will degrade the life of the finish due to the mild acid in the vinegar. Some older finishes will even turn white from the water in the vinegar. If one uses vinegar now and then it should be dried off right away and the finish repolished with a cream polish to restore the shine, or at least waxed.
