The thing I do for this problem is get a stop watch. Each time I go back to a certain job, start the watch, when I stop work on that item I stop the watch. Never clear the time on the watch until all the work is done, there you will have a final total for that job. Keep a cheep stop watch at each item you are involved with at that time. Another thing to do is use a video tape recorder, place the camera so it is focused right on the piece. Each time you do some work switch it on, use the date and time record on screen. When the job is done review the tape and document on paper a time total. Also you can record this onto another tape and edit out all the superfulous material, you will still have a good record, it just won't take that long to review the job each time you need to.
