Oak chairs

I have several straight back oak chairs, probably produced in the early 1900's. They have holes in the seat but it doesn't look like caning was used originally. Some have a recessed edge around the hole and some don't. I don't know what kind of seat to put on them. One has a round hole and the others have an almost square hole. If you have information I would appreciate it. Thanks.
