Restoring old oak corner display cabinet

Hi,

We have recently been left an old oak display cabinet from the turn of the century complete with its original glass. However it needs some treatment to bring it up to its previous glory.

My mum suggested cleaning it with a mix of vinegar and warm water and then polishing it with an oak coloured beeswax polish. Is this correct?

However we can't find any oak coloured beeswax polish so we bought something called fine oak polish so we were going to clean it, use this polish on it to bring up the colour and then apply a clear beeswax polish after this to add some protection. Will this work or is there a better way of doing it? We obviously want to make sure that we do it properly the first time as it will be with us for quite a while.

Any help would be great thanks

Sam
