You will most likely need to remove and replace the finish and reglue all the joints. I think there is little doubt that what you have is a real mess. Try to clean with lemon oil or paint thinner first, use some oooo steel wool. Then get back to us with a report on what the remaining finish and the glue look like, so we can advise.
