Refinishing Maple Laminate Chest of Drawers

HI, I just purchased a Chest of Drawers, Mirror, Bachelors Chest and Headboard that has a maple laminate. The laminate is in different sections and each section meets and coorealtes with the other. I began an attempt to clean the top of the chest of drawers with a water and Murphy's Oil combo and removed quite a bit of dirt but it appears that the top coating was partially removed when I did this as evidenced by dull spots. Is there a way that I can clean this furniture safely and keep the original surface intact? How would I go about repairing the area that I cleaned already? I have use Restore-A-Finish before but that seems to wear off quickly. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you, Noel Smith Morrow, Ohio
